Jamaica's Sherone Simpson
crossed the line fastest in the
Women's 200m Semi Finals.
Jamaican runners have continued to dominate the Women's 200m competition, following up earlier heat wins with a clean-sweep of the Semi Finals.
In race one, Veronica Campbell and Sheri-Ann Brooks of Jamaica ran 23.23 and 23.39 seconds respectively, to take the top two finishes.
Vida Anim of Ghan was third, while Delphine Atangana of Cameroon managed fourth with a personal best time of 23.61.
Race two finished faster and tighter, with Jamaica’s Sherone Simpson clocking 23.18, ahead of Cydonie Mothersill from the Cayman Islands, who ran a measured 23.19 after qualifying fastest with 23.11.
South Africa’s Geraldine Pillay was third in 23.29 seconds, with Leonie Mani of Cameroon running 23.52 to continue her country's strong performances and record a new season best time.
Track and Field competition at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) runs until 25 March.
