swam her heart out and set
a new Games record in the
Women's 200m Freestyle Final.
Scotland's Caitlin McClatchey out swam Libby Lenton in the Women's 200m Freestyle Final, setting a new Games record of 1:57.25.
England's Melanie Marshall came in third with the top six competitors all swimming under two minutes.
After winning gold McClatchey stated, "It was a bit of a shock but it's good. When I turned at the last 50 I knew I could win if I put my head down.
"I didn't think I was going to win, it's fantastic."
In the heat, Lenton was fastest in the halfway split with 57.91 seconds, but McClatchey clocked the fastest swim overall.
Pleased with her Silver medal swim, Lenton praised the Scots' performance. "The Scottish girl did a fantastic swim," she said.
In 2004, England’s Melanie Marshall was the fastest in the world over this distance but failed to reach the Olympic final. Marshall has been swimming for over ten years and was certainly up to the challenge of the final.
