Australia's Jade Edmistone has set a new Commonwealth Games Record time of 30.51 seconds in heat four of the Women's 50m Breaststroke.

"The swim itself was a bit rough.  My first few strokes were a bit all over the place," said Edmistone after her record breaking swim.

"You always want to do your fastest swim in the finals, and hopefully I'll do that tonight."

The first heat featured only three swimmers. It was won by Natasha Ratter of Uganda with a time of 42.71. The second heat featured a close race between Tarnee White of Australia, who pulled away in the final ten metres to record a time of 31.55 ahead of South Africa's Suzaan van Biljon (32.21).

Liesel Jones won heat three in a time of 30.78 seconds.

"The crowd was amazing for a heat swim and I'm really excited about tonight," said Jones who came 0.27 seconds from edging out Edmistone for the record.

"I've been working on my starts and hopefully I'll go faster tonight.”

Zoe Baker from New Zealand and Kate Heywood of England qualified fourth and fifth fastest respectively and were the best of the international contingent in the event.

The final will be contested by Australian's Jade Edmistone, Leisel Jones and Tarnee White, Zoe Baker of New Zealand, England's Kate Haywood, South African Suzaan Van Biljon, Lauren Van Oosten from Canada and Scotland's Fiona Booth.
