Chong Wei Lee shows his skillful
form and smashes his way into
the Semi Finals
In the Men's Singles of the Badminton, number one seed Chong Wei Lee of Malaysia endured a late challenge from Anup Sridhar of India, but was too skillful for his opponent, advancing 21-15, 21-18.
Second seed Choon Hann Wong of Malaysia overcame a stiff challenge from Yen Hui Kendrick Lee of Singapore, but advanced to the Semi Final, 21-17, 22-20.
Having played a Mixed Doubles match earlier in the day, Hendra Wijaya of Singapore was used to the atmosphere on court and threatened to upset the tournament draw in his match against fourth seed Chetan Ananad of India. Ananad withstood the challenge and emerged a three-set winner, 21-16, 13-21, 21-11.
Sri Lanka's Niluka Karunatane upset third seed Robert Milroy of Canada in the third round, and had his sights set on seventh seed Aamir Ghaffar of England next. But his Games campaign was brought to a halt, Ghaffar winning the thrilling encounter 21-19, 21-19.
In the Men's Doubles Quarter Finals, a controversial red card at 19-19 in the third and deciding game contributed to an upset win by Australia's Ashley Brehaut and Travis Denney over third seeded Geoffrey Bellingham and Craig Cooper of New Zealand.
The Kiwi pair would have had match point but a heated remark saw the point rescinded and handed to the Australians, giving the hosts a match point which they duly converted.
The match was a raucous affair, with both nations having vocal supporters in the audience, but the Australian pair held their nerve to record a 22-24, 21-16, 21-19 win.
Despite a promising start, Hendri Saputra and Ronald Susilo of Singapore were no match for Malaysian pair Chong Ming Chan and Kien Keat Koo , the top seeds recording a 21-17 21-17 victory.
Second seeds Robert Blair and Anthony Clark of England appear on track for a berth in the Final after their 21-11 21-9 win against New Zealand's John Moody and Daniel Shirley.
Jonathan Morgan and James Phillips of Wales forced Malaysia's Tan Fook Choong and Choong Hann Wong to push their game to a higher level, and the Malaysians responded with a 21-14, 21-9 win.
The winning pairs will play their Semi Finals tonight in what promises to be an electric atmosphere.
Chan and Koo of Malaysia meet Brehaur and Denney of Australia, while Malaysia's Choong and Wong play Blair and Clark of England.
